Perfil Profesional
The student who graduates from Forest Engineering of Universidad Mayor is a professional focused on the sustainable conservation and management of the natural resources proceeding from the country´s forests, taking into account in the decision making process the socio-cultural, economic and environmental surrounding in which these resources are developed.
He/she is a professional able to relevantly and competently work in the public sector where he/she is capable of becoming a leader and make decisions on the development and protection of renewable natural resources and protection of the environment. In the private sector he/she will show competencies to be an exceptional and innovative professional in different types of organizations, where management is related to the sustainable use of natural resources as are the organizations which belong to the forestry and agricultural sectors, mining companies and the energy industry, environmental consulting companies, among others.
In the discipline area, he/she has competencies for applying technological, technical and scientific tools in the sustainable management and conservation of natural resources, focusing on forests and the natural ecosystems of the country. He/she will be a technical expert in the knowledge of these resources, being able to generate the goods and services demanded by society, but always caring for the environment and the socio-cultural values implied.
As a differentiating seal the Forest Engineer graduated from Universidad Mayor is able to act with self-criticism in the decision-making process, carrying out a complex analysis based on multiple criteria, allowing to design and successfully implement projects and development initiatives of a high impact for society.
In the managerial area, he/she is able to efficiently and responsibly mobilize human and economic resources, leading teams and incorporating entrepreneurship and innovation as his/her main working tools.
In his/her performance, the graduate from Forest Engineering has a spirit of self-criticism and the capacity of self-observing his/her work, evaluating his/her professional performance, so as to incorporate this as positive feedback, allowing improving his/her work.
Finally, in the interpersonal area he/she is capable of integrating and leading multidisciplinary work teams, showing an attitude of respect, proactively, and responsible, allowing relating professionally with all those involved in the social spectrum.
Perfil Genérico UM
The graduate from Universidad Mayor will show through his/her professional work the capacity of entrepreneurship which will allow him/her to creatively establish objectives for him/her or for others, make decisions in ambiguous situations and formulating the means leading to the accomplishment of objectives established; with criticism and self- criticism allowing a continual search of genuine solutions to problems, managing his/her own emotions enduring indecision and ambiguity; with basic research skills to design projects; with self- learning capacity which is evidenced through the search for relevant information, analysis and application of autonomous learning strategies and capacity to integrate inter and multi- professional teams.
Certificación de Competencias
Competency Certification System at the end of each block of CurrículumMayor
Universidad Mayor, through its curricular model assures student learning, by the evaluation and competency certification of the profiles stated in each block of CurriculumMayor. Depending on the program, by the end of the 2nd or 3rd year, students undergo the first competency evaluation. The performance is evaluated in a real or simulated evaluative situation in which the performance is evidenced based on the key competencies developed at the Bachelor level. The student advances to the Licentiate level and, again, undergoes the competency evaluation, including specific disciplinary or generic competencies; among the latter, the management of communicational skills, of basic research skills, scientific reasoning and quantitative tools, reasoning, critical analysis and self- criticism, skills to access and use the technological tools, especially the information ones, entrepreneurial capacity and project administration, self- learning and personal development, appreciation of the historical- social and cultural reality of Chile and the world, valuing the role he/she plays in his/her development. The student concludes his/her educational stage at the Professional level, it is here, where the competencies engaged in the graduating profile should represent the response to acting competently as CurriculumMayor assures it in its educational offer. The Evaluation and Certification of Competency System has the objective of evaluating the effectiveness of the professional and generic competencies of the students, according to the UM educational model. This process adds value to the education, since apart from the academic certification the student obtains the performance certification of the evaluated competencies.
