Perfil Profesional
The student who graduates from the program of Design of Universidad Mayor will be a professional able to relevantly and competently work in the development, realization and managing of design projects, incorporating the aspects of innovation, market and technical-productive viability.
In the discipline aspect, he/she will be capable of identifying designing opportunities, analysis of requests and development of a solution, taking into account the needs of the industry and the market.
As a differentiating seal, the design graduate from Universidad Mayor is an autonomous designer within the working world, having the competencies to generate and take on new global markets linked to integral design.
In the management aspect, he/she will be capable of formulating the requests of the industry and the market, developing solutions based on design encompassing three specializations: environmental design, where he/she will be capable of administrating and organizing the existing space and elements based on the requested identity, efficiency and convenience; graphic design, specialization in which he/she will be able to interpret, translate and configure information in assertive and persuasive messages, favoring an effective communication within various support aids and platforms; and in industrial design, he/she will be able to develop products in response to the needs of the end user, adding value in the productive chain, taking into account the entire lifecycle of the product.
Regarding his/her performance, he/she will have the capability of self-observing his/her work and self-evaluating his/her professional practices. Likewise, he/she will be able to constructively accept the opinions others have of his/her professional performance, incorporating them as positive feedback, allowing improving his/her work.
The student who graduates from Design of Universidad Mayor will be capable of complementing his/her capacities with the needs of the market and the industry, promoting self-learning, knowledge and technology improvement, and continuous education in his/her professional performance.
Finally, he/she will be able to identify and observe the needs of the users, listening and interpreting the say of the customer, and integrating multidisciplinary networks, proactively contributing in designing innovation.
Perfil Genérico UM
The graduate from Universidad Mayor will show through his/her professional work the capacity of entrepreneurship which will allow him/her to creatively establish objectives for him/her or for others, make decisions in ambiguous situations and formulating the means leading to the accomplishment of objectives established; with criticism and self- criticism allowing a continual search of genuine solutions to problems, managing his/her own emotions enduring indecision and ambiguity; with basic research skills to design projects; with self- learning capacity which is evidenced through the search for relevant information, analysis and application of autonomous learning strategies and capacity to integrate inter and multi- professional teams.
Certificación de Competencias
Competency Certification System at the end of each block of CurrículumMayor
Universidad Mayor, through its curricular model assures student learning, by the evaluation and competency certification of the profiles stated in each block of CurriculumMayor. Depending on the program, by the end of the 2nd or 3rd year, students undergo the first competency evaluation. The performance is evaluated in a real or simulated evaluative situation in which the performance is evidenced based on the key competencies developed at the Bachelor level. The student advances to the Licentiate level and, again, undergoes the competency evaluation, including specific disciplinary or generic competencies; among the latter, the management of communicational skills, of basic research skills, scientific reasoning and quantitative tools, reasoning, critical analysis and self- criticism, skills to access and use the technological tools, especially the information ones, entrepreneurial capacity and project administration, self- learning and personal development, appreciation of the historical- social and cultural reality of Chile and the world, valuing the role he/she plays in his/her development. The student concludes his/her educational stage at the Professional level, it is here, where the competencies engaged in the graduating profile should represent the response to acting competently as CurriculumMayor assures it in its educational offer. The Evaluation and Certification of Competency System has the objective of evaluating the effectiveness of the professional and generic competencies of the students, according to the UM educational model. This process adds value to the education, since apart from the academic certification the student obtains the performance certification of the evaluated competencies.
