Perfil Profesional
The Law graduate will be able to perform interdisciplinary, with leadership and the necessary training to elaborate and execute work projects related to the professional performance.
Able to think and reason in accordance to the legal rationale and values in front of the situations he/she must approach in the work field, acquiring the following competencies:
- Identify and properly apply the legal principles and institutions related to the issues under study, reaching a solution in accordance to the determination and objective of the legislator
- Manage communicational situations which train him/her for performing the profession.
- Study and go into the legal factors involved in the different issues which he/she must approach as a professional.
- Relate and settle the Law institutions which are present in each case, situation or problem he/she must face within the work field, having to stay current on legal knowledge.
The Law graduate of Universidad Mayor will be an ethical professional, with a broad, globalized and projective vision, responsible and committed with the development of Chile. During his/her training he/she will develop skills to work in teams and stay informed and connected to the relevant issues which arise within the legal, national and international setting. He/she will be highly competent and skilful in legal activities as a result of the educational model and the methodology applied to his/her training, comprising a permanent litigation practice before these courts, an instructional setting involving practicing judges which accurately and vividly replicate the work of national legal courts and the participation which, before them, is for the lawyers.
All the above provides the graduate with a utmost practical experience presenting the following competencies and skills:
- Deeply understand the legal relevant issues which are proposed.
- Accurately relate the background information properly processed with all the basic and official Law procedures.
- Build the most efficient and effective procedural strategies consistent with the issues subject to their analysis.
- To perform before the different courts showing experience and ingenuity, having a practical command of the applicable regulations, with comparative advantages before the other litigants in the use of time and of the available mechanisms.

The graduate from Universidad Mayor will show through his/her professional work the capacity of entrepreneurship which will allow him/her to creatively establish objectives for him/her or for others, make decisions in ambiguous situations and formulating the means leading to the accomplishment of objectives established; with criticism and self- criticism allowing a continual search of genuine solutions to problems, managing his/her own emotions enduring indecision and ambiguity; with basic research skills to design projects; with self- learning capacity which is evidenced through the search for relevant information, analysis and application of autonomous learning strategies and capacity to integrate inter and multi- professional teams.
Certificación de Competencias
Competency Certification System at the end of each block of CurrículumMayor
Universidad Mayor, through its curricular model assures student learning, by the evaluation and competency certification of the profiles stated in each block of CurriculumMayor. Depending on the program, by the end of the 2nd or 3rd year, students undergo the first competency evaluation. The performance is evaluated in a real or simulated evaluative situation in which the performance is evidenced based on the key competencies developed at the Bachelor level. The student advances to the Licentiate level and, again, undergoes the competency evaluation, including specific disciplinary or generic competencies; among the latter, the management of communicational skills, of basic research skills, scientific reasoning and quantitative tools, reasoning, critical analysis and self- criticism, skills to access and use the technological tools, especially the information ones, entrepreneurial capacity and project administration, self- learning and personal development, appreciation of the historical- social and cultural reality of Chile and the world, valuing the role he/she plays in his/her development. The student concludes his/her educational stage at the Professional level, it is here, where the competencies engaged in the graduating profile should represent the response to acting competently as CurriculumMayor assures it in its educational offer. The Evaluation and Certification of Competency System has the objective of evaluating the effectiveness of the professional and generic competencies of the students, according to the UM educational model. This process adds value to the education, since apart from the academic certification the student obtains the performance certification of the evaluated competencies.
